The foundation stone of this Blue city was led by the Rathore emperor King Rao Jodha. They belong to the suryavanshi clan of warriors. The 11th to 14th century was a prime time for lethal clashes between invaders and Indian warriors. Marwar was a prosperous kingdom. Many foreign invaders, including afghans and Mughals, were attracted to this unbelievable wealth. 

Initially, Kannauj was the capital of the Rathore clan. It was led by the emperor Naya Pal. Kannauj was also a prosperous town. It remained a successful capital for almost 700 years. Later during a war with Mohammad Ghori, the Rajputs lost their kingdom. They searched for a more secure and reliable place for their new capital. They wanted to prepare for the coming wars and gain all their lost wealth and glory. They reached pali which is currently a small town near Jodhpur. 

Then the king of Rajputs, Rathore Shivaji, expanded his presence in the area. He then shifted his capital to Mandore. In 1459, the successor of the kingdom, maharaja Rao Jodha, felt a need for a more secure capital. They then decided to move their capital to Jodhpur. He laid the foundation stone for the Mehrangarh fort. At this point, Jodhpur became the most powerful constituency of the Rajput clan. Later Jodhpur was declared the capital of Marwar.
