Pratap Singh wanted to create a source of drinking water for nearby villages and chose to destroy the gardens and palaces to build the lake. Takhat Sagar and Umaid Sagar are the primary outflows of Kaylana Lake through which the water flows to nearby villages and towns. Kaylana Lake Jodhpur is approximately 40 to 50 ft deep.
